33º South
Juan Salazar & Sarah Watterson
Sydney and Chile so far apart, yet so close?
Both cities lie on the globe at parallel points- 33º South. This artwork is a three-channel audio-visual installation that examines the cities of Sydney (Australia) and Santiago (Chile) using a custom made data mapping system and database.
Through video and new media, 33º South sets in motion a whole set of relationships between these apparently unrelated urban places. Two cities’ histories and geographies meet in a different imaginary place. A new cultural story is created in this act of experimental geography.
A collaboration between new media artist, Sarah Watterson and visual anthropologist/ video maker Juan Salazar.
PLEASE NOTE: The advertised 2pm Feedback Session on Saturday 28 March 2009 will no longer take place. We look forward to welcoming you at 4pm for drinks with the artist. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
