Embrace your inner light during Casula Mela, celebrating the traditional Indian festivals of Durga Puja and Diwali.

Come along and be part of this significant Indian festival, featuring a series of exhibitions, Indian cooking workshops, cultural dancing, musical performances, Indian games, Bollywood films, kids activities, Diwali fireworks and much more.

The Casula Mela program will include the following highlights:

Thursday 14 October - Casula Mela exhibitions start, see Durga Idols, Golu dolls, and paintings by local Indian artists. Admire the textiles display of kalamkari, embroidery, phulkari, screen printing and view photographs portraying several generations of family members from India, and a kids exhibition about Diwali.

Saturday 23 October – Launch of Casula Mela exhibition and festival program. The night features Navaratri pooja (a festival of worship, dance and music), followed by cultural presentations from the Kannada school.
Saturday 30 October - Demonstration of the Durga Puja Ritual (worship of idol Durga), assisted by community women in traditional dress and many diverse performances.

Friday 12 November - Meet with Utsava Murthy, the Helensburgh Temple Deity, experience traditional Indian worship, singing and Indian food.

Saturday 13 – Sunday 14 November – Embrace traditional Indian music and dance mixed with Bollywood and Kollywood performances by various groups Sydney wide. Participate in puppet making, cooking classes or learn rhymes through Sanskrit (an ancient Indian Language) and enjoy Bharatnatyam (an Indian classical dance workshop) by Neeta Sura, Principal, Nrityaniketan School of Dance. See first release Indian movie Mukha Mukhi (Kannada Movie with English subtitles). There will be a vast selection of Indian food stalls and plenty of activities. Enjoy the Diwali Fireworks on the Saturday night.

We extend our thanks and respect to the entire Indian community for their support in making this program possible.
