I want to know what love is

What song reminds you of your first love? What song brings you joy or sorrow? What song reminds you of your childhood? What song reminds you of home? What song makes you feel nostalgic? What song tells your story?

"I want to know what love is" …. Songs of memories, personal stories and love, is a collaborative project using singing and song to develop connections between communities and to amplify the multilingual voices of diverse communities in South-West Sydney.

Artist Joanne Saad has worked with local residents from diverse communities and age-groups in South-West Sydney since November 2011.

Drawing on the complex diversity of South-West Sydney, this project creates a new aesthetic through images and music, multilingual song and interactive performance with the end resulting in a nine week exhibition including Karaoke clips, Confession Booths – Video portraits in the private and public space and Multilingual Love duets.

I Want to Know What Love is brings the private into the public, and the public into the private, with local communities and residents of South-West Sydney as the creators and performers.
