LANDSCAAP

COLLINGWOOD HOUSE
5 - 26 August 2006
A site-specific multi-media installation created by Stephen Fox at Collingwood House, was part of the 2005 Emerging Artist Scholarship. The annual University of Western Sydney and Casula Powerhouse Scholarship is awarded to a graduating student and provides a three-month residency, where artists produce new work for a solo exhibition.
Landscaap incorporated multi-channel video projections throughout Collingwood House, where old architecture met new technology. This installation examined the power that is contained within the horizons that surround us.
The work interrogates the notion of the landscape as a retainer of information - as our psyches are shaped by our surroundings, the land is invisibly changed by the events that occur on its surface. Landscaap explored the possibility of re-collecting these invisible traces, by allowing them to momentarily break through the barrier of the visible.
