Liverpool City Art Prize

Thank you to all those artists who entered the 2009 Liverpool City Art Prize. The official launch event on Saturday 14 November 2009 saw more than 400 people gather to see the official unveiling of artworks.

Official Winners include:

Prize: Liverpool City Art Prize Overall Winner
$10,000 - Open to all artists in Australia
Winner: Gary Foye for his work ‘Capertree Elegy #9 – Valley of Sorrows’

Prize: Two Dimensional Traditional Prize
$1,000 - Any two dimensional work including acrylic, oil, mixed media on paper, board or canvas.
Winner: Murray Sinclair for his work ‘www.cafe’

Prize: Two Dimensional Contemporary Prize
$1,000 - Any two dimensional work including acrylic, oil, mixed media on paper, board or canvas.
Winner: Carlos Barrios for his work ‘Festival’

Photography/Digital Prize
$1,000 - Any digital work including photography, new media, sound and interactive work.
Winner: Justene Williams for her work ‘Tauber Guard Freak Mix’

Sculpture/Three Dimensional Work Prize
$1,000 - Any three dimensional Work including sculpture, installation.
Winner: Kate Mackay for her work ‘Cardboard Cube #2’

Liverpool Bicentenary Prize
Winner: Ro Murray for her work ‘Dark Sky’

Children’s Prizes
(Primary) $250 – Open to any artist aged 3-12 years of age
Winner: Abira Harvey for her work ‘The Wave, The Wind’

(Secondary) $250 – Open to any artist aged 13-18 years of age
Winner: Thomas Bui for his work ‘Self Portrait’

About the Liverpool City Art Prize:

Casula Powerhouse, in partnership with Greenway, Liverpool and Liverpool West Rotary Clubs, is pleased to announce the recommencement of the annual Liverpool City Art Prize (LCAP). For the first time, this will be held at the new Casula Powerhouse.

A national competition, with a $10,000 prize for the overall winner, the LCAP is open to Australian artists of all levels, regardless of age or location. LCAP is open themed, appealing to a broad range of styles; from the emerging to the established, contemporary to traditional, from sculpture and painting to new media.

The 2009 Liverpool City Art Prize also includes 4 additional acquisitive awards of $1,000 each and 2 children's awards of $250 each. 

Official judges of the prize include: Nicholas Harding; winner of the 2001 Archibald portrait prize, John McDonald; Sydney Morning Herald Art Critic and Liverpool City Mayor Wendy Waller.
