ARC Linkage

This 3 year project researches Asian arts contribution to contemporary culture in Australia- with a particular focus on and architecture. Through a series of forums and conferences three key areas will be explored: art and the built environment, curatorial strategies and the diverse nature of the Asian political economy.

Concrete Cultures is the first part of this ARC project to be realised. Concrete Cultures, at Ivan Dougherty Gallery 29 May – 5 July, examines relationships between art and architecture in rapidly evolving cities, revealing how Asian and Australian art can engender community, regional and international dialogue.

Participating artists and architects are drawn from Australia and Asia. Subsequent exhibitions will be held at Casula Powerhouse and Zendai Museum of Modern Art, Shanghai in 2009 - 10. Project research is assisted by Australian Research Council Linkage Project funding and undertaken under the auspices of UNSW’s Centre for Contemporary Art + Politics, in collaboration with Casula Powerhouse.
