Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre presents

The Clay House
The Clay House is an association of potters and ceramic artists who run workshops at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. Formed in 2000, the Clay House provides space for ceramic artists in South Western Sydney to work in a practical and creative environment. Throughout the year the Clay House holds a variety of workshops for members and guests, including day and evening classes for adults and children, classes for people with disabilities and tailored curriculum packages for primary and secondary schools. Prices for all workshops include materials and firing.

Kids Clay Classes with Natalie Valiente
Ages 7 – 12 | 4pm – 5.30pm
$100 per term
Join Natalie Valiente at the Clay House for 8 weekly ceramic workshops that will encourage and transfer children’s creativity and imagination to a new medium. Children will learn the simple techniques of ceramic art and will use their skills to make pots, figurines, plates and sculptures.

Term 3: Mondays, 20 July - 7 September
Term 4: Mondays, 12 October - 30 November
(excluding public holidays)

* When dropping off children, parents must make sure the workshop facilitator has arrived before leaving. No refunds for missed classes.

Adult Clay Classes with Natalie Valiente
6:30pm – 8:30pm | $140 per term, price

Join Natalie Valiente at the Clay House for weekly adult classes that will introduce you to the basics of the age-old art of ceramics. The relaxed studio setting and informal instructional style provides equal time for acquiring hand skills as well as experimentation. This engaging course will provide you with the confidence to produce great take-home pieces.

The Clay House Open Studios
Wednesdays | 10:30am – 2:30pm | $5 per person
The Open Studios are open to people who have some previous clay experience. This is a non-teaching session.

Team Clay: Tailored team building workshops
10:30am – 3:30pm | $120 per person
These workshops utilise clay construction techniques to emphasize and harness the importance of individual skills in the achievement of a collective goal. Clay provides a responsive medium for participants to externalise and measure their thought processes. Through a unique series of rotational group exercises, participants can simultaneously visualise the value of their contribution alongside that of their colleagues. Team Clay injects tactile creativity into staff investment.

Clay Classroom
$15 per student
Clay Classroom offers the professional skills and educational expertise of the Clay House as an off-site, syllabus based incursion. The Clay House can tailor a range of workshops in partnership with school staff. This comprehensive package brings the Clay House to your classroom. Prices includes two Clay House facilitators, materials, equipment and firing.

Clay Life Sculpture with Thomas Quayle
Tuesdays 24 February & 3 March | 6pm - 8pm
$40 per adult
This two day course will allow you to gain confidence in developing an observational figurative sculpture from clay. Working with a life model for reference, you will be guided by professional ceramicist Thomas Quayle. Quayle creates works that focus on the human figure, evoking a sense of narrative play in order to connect with the viewer. Learn the basics of three-dimensional practice as initial forms are gradually translated into a scaled detailed figure.

Clay Together
10.30am – 12pm | $10 per person | Children under 5 FREE
Clay Together is a new ceramic sculpture workshop to companion Draw Together. Clay Together will take place during every exhibition at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. All ages and abilities are welcome; simply bring your enthusiasm for art. You will be guided through a series of individual ceramic exercises responding directly to exhibited artworks.
