Casula Powerhouse presents
Lotte's Gift
A play by David Williamson, written for and performed by Karin Schaupp
Based on the memoirs & recollections of Lieslotte Reinke and the recollections of Isolde & Karin Schaupp and Trudy von Stein.
Classical guitarist Karin Schaupp is one of Australia’s most esteemed musicians. David Williamson is Australia’s best known playwright. In this touching play these two Australian luminaries join forces to tell the remarkable true story of Karin’s grandmother Lotte, an exceptional singer with a passion for music. Lotte gave Karin her first guitar at the age of three and immediately Karin’s destiny became clear.
Whilst harsh realities dashed her personal ambitions, and she never became the star she should have been, Lotte sees Karin has become exactly what she deserves to be. And for Lotte, that’s more than enough.
Lotte's Gift has toured nationally and internationally to critical acclaim, with critics calling it "heartfelt and brilliant" (The Sunday Mail, UK) and "exceptionally beautiful" (Sydney Morning Herald).
“(Lotte’s Gift) tells a true, heart warming and often hilarious Australian story. As a bonus, it features Schaupp's sublime mastery of the classical guitar. It has the potential to travel the world."
