Casula Powerhouse presents
Rasa Unmasked

Be mesmerised by bold and vibrant fusion of contemporary and classical Indian dance, based around an ancient Indian theory of aesthetics known as "Rasa". Casula Powerhouse debuts this sensuous dance work from the Asian diaspora in a stunning collaboration between classical Indian dance icon,
Anandavalli and Malaysian dance doyen
Ramli Ibrahim. Eight dancers will be acccompanied by a cross-cultural orchestra, led by
Alex Dea on traditional Javanese vocals and rebab with an Indian Carnatic vocalist and classical percussionist.
Rasa Unmasked moves beyond genre and the culture it springs from – it is an event that offers a universal vision of humanity's contemporary, emotional landscape. Be taken on a vibrant passage through human emotion with the nine rasas: sringara (love), veera (heroism), karuna (compassion), adbhuta (wonderment), hasya (mirth), bhaya (terror), bibhatsa (disgust), raudra (anger) and shanta (serenity).
Rasa Unmasked is the result of a collaboration between Anandavalli & Australia's Lingalayam Dance Company, Ramli Ibrahim & Malaysia's Sutra Dance Theatre and Ethnomusicologist/Composer, Alex Dea – all pioneers of classical art forms in contemporary contexts. You can find out more
