This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing
'Once upon a time… and twice upon a time… and thrice upon a time… a girl was born.’.
12-year-old triplets are left in the forest by their woodcutter father. From this point of great sorrow and uncertainty, three resolutions are made – one sister will walk one way, one the other, and the third will stay right where she is. Twenty years later – having circled a globe, fought Vikings, crossed oceans, toppled lighthouses, tamed wilds, braved horrors and achieved greatness – the two wanderers find themselves returned to the forest of their abandonment, the forest where a third sister waits.
Winner of the 2010 Rodney Seaborn Award, This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing harnesses the conventions and mythologies of classic fairytales and marries them with an original journey accessible to modern children. Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, the Q Theatre Company (Penrith) and Barking Gecko Theatre Company (Perth) proudly collaborate to produce the Australian premiere of Finegan Kruckemeyer’s epic tale – about the search for happiness, self and a place to call home.
