EVENTS: GIANT LEAP PROGRAM LAUNCH

Casula Powerhouse presents GIANT LEAP, a multi-arts program, which includes six new exhibitions created to mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 1969. The launch and first steps on the moon were televised and watched around the world. The exhibitions provide insight into the impact of the first humans on the moon, on popular culture, on individuals and on their artwork and acknowledges the ancient and important influences of the moon in most cultures.
The official launch of the GIANT LEAP program gives you the chance to see our space-themed exhibitions from day to night. There will be musical performances, workshops, an Intergalactic Space Party (kids disco) as well as a special moon viewing event with the Macarthur Astronomical Society.
GIANT LEAP Program Launch: Event Schedule
3pm : Launch event begins
3:30pm : Official opening of six new exhibitions; meet the artists
3pm - 6pm : Musical performances (including DWEEB CITY)
4pm - 8pm : Astrology readings - introductory (bring birthdate, time and place)
6pm - 7.30pm : Experimental music and short films. (Featuring performances and works by Jaimie and Aspasia Leonarder and Chris Caines)
4pm - 6pm : Kids workshop-wear or make your own space costume
6pm - 7.30pm : Intergalactic Space Party (Kids Disco) - Wear your own space costume or make one at the workshop
8pm - 9pm : Moon viewing with Macarthur Astronomical Society
The GIANT LEAP program includes the exhibitions HIGH LOOM, a large-scale installation in the Turbine Hall by Lisa Sammut; Memories of the Moon Landing in the Marsden Gallery; Astronaut in the Switch Gallery; Future in the Upper Turbine Gallery; and Under the Same Moon in the Hopper Gallery, as well as fun, interactive activities in the Kids Gallery. The GIANT LEAP program also includes One Small Step, a satellite exhibition at the Liverpool Regional Museum.
