EXHIBITIONS: JUMAADI: BRING ME BACK MY BODY AND I WILL RETURN YOUR SOUL

Indonesian-Australian artist Jumaadi takes a contemporary perspective on traditional art forms and stories to connect people, places, time, history, memory and nature. Two video works created in collaboration with the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, Charleston, USA will be on view in the main Turbine Gallery. The works draw on traditional Indonesian theatre called Wayang Kulit with both traditional and contemporary imagery using light and shadow.

Exhibition launch: 19 January 2019, 2 – 4pm
includes a performance by Alfira O’Sullivan.

ASYIK CASULA Indonesian Cultural Day: 10 February 2019, 10.30am – 3pm
The ASYIK Cultural Day includes activities for all ages, including art workshops (including shadow puppetry), dance workshops led by Suara Indonesia Dance Group and community dance performances. As part of the looking here, looking north exhibition, there will also be performances by Kartika Suharto-Martin and Alfira O’Sullivan. Bellbird Dining & Bar will be open and there will also be Indonesian food available to purchase. The day concludes with a conversation with artists involved in the looking here, looking north exhibition at 2pm.
