EXHIBITIONS: THE SONG TREE PROJECT
21 Sep 2019 - 27 Oct 2019 | 9.00am - 4.00pm
The Song Tree exhibition celebrates the similarities and differences of childhood and childhood songs from around the world.
The Song Tree Project provided opportunity for participants to share childhood memories, stories and discuss the themes of childhood songs, lullabies and nursery rhymes that originated from around the world. Exploring the similarity and differences of childhood song themes from around the world, the women discovered fun, fantastical and imaginative songs and also songs that had darker sides that encouraged good behaviour from children and sleep! The women who participated each developed designs for their leaf of the ‘song tree’ and used various needlework, embroidery and other techniques of their choosing to represent a song from their own childhood. The exhibition is the outcome of series of workshops, led by artist Michelle Belgiorno, throughout 2019.
Presented as part of Sydney Craft Week 2019.
Join us for the Exhibition Launch on Saturday 21 September 2 – 4pm.
