LANDINGS is an exhibition which explores the event on the 15th May 1879 (some claim it to be 14th or even the 17th), when the first batch of 497 Girmitiyas male and female indentured labourers from India were brought to Fiji by the British. Fijian and Indo- Fijian artists respond to: removal, grief and how communities have the capacity to remake themselves in the face of empire.
