Join ceramicist Natalie Valiente every Thursday morning for Hand Built Ceramics at Casula Powerhouse. These informal, project based sessions are suited to both beginners and more advanced students equally. Beginners will undergo 3 sessions learning the basics of hand building with clay; pinching, slab rolling, coiling and joining. You will then be shown how to glaze your work in preparation for firing. Natalie will demonstrate each process and discuss the steps as you perform them. Advanced students can plan individual projects and discuss specific needs and instruction with Natalie accordingly.

All tools and materials are included, clay, decorative glazes and firing of your final piece. You just need bring some suitable clothing and be prepared to get your hands dirty. Make something practical, decorative or sculptural over a period of 8 weeks. Hand-building is tactile, fun, social and rewarding within an inclusive group of like-minded people. Ages from 16-Seniors all welcome.

Natalie is a ceramic artist, long term member of Sydney’s Clayhouse and has facilitated ceramic workshops in collaboration with Public Programs Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre for over 10 years. Natalie has extensive experience in facilitating a wide context of ceramic workshops including day and evening classes for adults and children, classes for people with disabilities and tailored curriculum packages for schools in conjunction with CPAC.
