WORKSHOPS: THE SONG TREE PROJECT
14 Aug 2019 | 10.00am - 12.00pm
THE SONG TREE PROJECT
The Song Tree Project is a series of fortnightly workshops that bring women together to share songs and culture through a communal stitching project.
Together, participants share their songs, memories and lyric themes of childhood songs, lullabies and nursery rhymes through needlework and embroidery techniques of their choice. Women of all ages are invited to stitch together - both literally and figuratively - a song tree that celebrates the similarities and differences of songs from around the world and the diversity of Liverpool residents.
THE SONG TREE EXHIBITION
In September 2019 Michelle will create a large sculptural installation comprising all the leaves embroidered by participants in the Marsden Gallery at Casula Powerhouse. Participants are asked to contribute their work for the installation, which will be returned upon completion of the exhibition.
The Workshop gatherings are free! All materials are provided and participants are encouraged to come having thought about childhood songs and lullabies from their own cultural background.
No special sewing skills are necessary. It is intended that participants attend several gatherings but not necessarily all.
