WORKSHOPS: DRAW TOGETHER: FACING FAITH
16 Apr 2016 | 1pm - 2:30pmBook Tickets
DRAW TOGETHER for the 64 Blake Prize focuses on reoccurring, but approachable themes on exhibition at CPAC. Join Roy Marchant and Cayn Rosmarin for FACING FAITH which examines how some artists have chosen to use portraiture or identity as part of their negotiation to the core themes of religion and spirituality. Cigdem Aydemir’s video Whirl presents the context of spirituality as something both internal and external. A moving veil pulses in waves both revealing and covering the artists face. Tom Blake presents an alternative ‘portrait’. His work examines our desire to find meaning or identity within random shapes or objects. Blake rearranges the elements of a popular digital symbol. Michael Cardacino’s human scale cut-outs invite the audience to identify literally with the changing faces of religion. Multiple cardinals are presented with changing facial expressions. Is there a true face of god? Alan Jones locates his multiple portraits within the landscape that defines his identity. The portraits float above the surface, between visitation and memory. FACING FAITH will take place in close proximity to these artworks. You will be guided through a series of individual and collaborative drawing exercises designed to respond directly to the exhibited artworks, as well as being encouraged to discuss them.
DRAW TOGETHER is a regular drawing workshop held twice during every exhibition at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. All ages and abilities are welcome; simply bring your enthusiasm for art. Appreciate the value of drawing, develop visual thinking skills and create something new in an inspiring atmosphere. Reserve your spot now or drop in on the day.
