WORKSHOPS: STUDIO SWITCH | TWERKOUT WITH CAROLINE GARCIA
25 Jun 2016 | 10.30am - 1pmBook Tickets
Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre (CPAC) has transformed its Switch Gallery into studio spaces to accommodate six artists. The nine week tenure of Studios Switch will involve intense research, artistic creation as well as professional and community networking. Studios Switch will also provide members of the public access to artists. Caroline Garcia is a culturally promiscuous, performance maker. She works across live performance and video using a hybrid mix of cross-cultural dance, ritual, new media, and the sampling of popular culture and colonial imagery. She takes an intersectional approach to contemporary dance (read: twerking) and the cultural politics of identity. She is concerned with forgotten choreographies, mimetic movement, alternate ways of viewing images of the past that avoid classical myths, and the cultural make-up of the Filipina.
Join Caroline Garcia for STUDIOS SWITCH: TWERKOUT, and be guided through 2 Dancehall styles that are endemic to her practice and identity.
