Artist: Grace Ludemann
Artwork: Wash, Rinse, Repeat
Medium: Rotoscope animation made with Pencil, paper, iMovie
Category: My Mood
Connection to Liverpool: Lives in Wattlegrove
Description: I never realised how much routine governed my mood until we all moved inside and online. Without Tuesdays, business hours and weekends I'm drinking in my pyjamas at 3.30 in the afternoon. My only meaningful measure of time is the cycle of maintaining my curly hair routine now that I don't have to make it more 'professional' for work. In my animated self portrait, I use 20 hand drawn frames to represent my cycle of engagement, withdrawal, motivation and exhaustion measured against curly, wavy, stringy, limp tresses. Created to be played in a never ending loop, time starts to lose meaning. The low frame rate results in a pervasive flicker, mirroring our collective uncertainty. I used traditional materials and animation techniques to reflect our return to baking and making as we try to synthesise routine and meaning as the days blur together.

The colours of the sky passing throughout the day show the constant changes and that nothing will ever be the same. The idea that normal is ephemeral.

I am also grateful that we can go out and shop for non essentials whilst still adhering to social distancing measures. The big bonus is the return of AFL to our tv screens next month.  We can’t go out to watch games but we can all scream as a family at the tv...lol.

Medium: Photograph
Category: Funny - Make us LOL
Connection to Liverpool: Lives and works in Green Valley
Description: My husband and myself started our childcare business in February and it’s been quite challenging since COVID -19 hit us like a huge storm. What I am gratetful for is our family time, spent together enjoying nature. We spend our weekends exploring the beauty of nature that Liverpool City Council offers to us. We enjoy walking talking and taking photos to take back and show and tell the children at the childcare. Today we enjoyed making autumn leaf angels at the big park followed by visiting the Bush Tukker garden display in front of Casula Powerhouse. We love teaching our children about the importance of culture and community. We love how much Liverpool City Council offers families to be a part of. At work we are learning about “why do leafs fall” we found this a perfect opportunity to explore take photos of and take back to our children back at work to share with.

Artist: Melissa Brattoni
Artwork: Untitled
Category: Visual Narrative
Connection to Liverpool: Works in Liverpool
Description: A series of selfies taken on Easter Sunday. It was a beautiful and warm day spent at home during isolation. With not much to do, some of the time was spent out in the garden. The Tibouchina tree was blooming and I had a bout of creativity, playing around capturing the flowers and myself amongst its branches. These are my favourite selfies I've ever taken and I think they sit well together as a sequence as though they are telling a story. My stances were largely inspired by the title character from a book I'm reading called 'Daisy Jones and the Six.'

HessaS_01

HessaS_02

Artist: Hessa Sapphire
Artwork: New Life After the Chaos
Category: Visual Narrative
Connection to Liverpool: Works in Liverpool
Description: Last weekend, as Covid restrictions ease, my family and I went on a boating trip to Kangaroo Valley near Tallowa Dam. On our way, we passed by the bushfire aftermath area where trees were burnt black and fauna is scarce. As heartbreaking as it was, however, it was still amazing to see how new leaves have sprung from the blackened trees. It was like beauty after the chaos. Seeing how nature has a way of slowly healing itself gives me a sense of hope. And reflecting from what the world is facing right now with the pandemic, I know that we will be able to get through this crisis. Just like the recovering forests, slowly humanity will be able to rise again.

Marin Robins

This image was taken at Cecil Hills on a local walk.

Linda Sok

Artist: Linda Sok
Artwork: Untitled
Category: Isolation Landscape

I have been using rainwater and sea salt to create crystalline structures on Khmer silk scarves. My parents were born in Cambodia. For me, the combination of the silk scarves with Australian rainwater embodied my own personal view of the world, connecting my ancestral land to my current one despite isolation disabling my ability to travel there.
