Bankstown Poetry Slam and Casula Powerhouse present

Write On: Speaking Truth to Power

There is power in words. Poetry is an untenable force that moves hearts, warms souls and mobilises nations. This stellar lineup of modern poets explore how their works speak truth to power and how they continue to find inspiration to advocate for social justice, revolution and reformation. Entry to this event is free but bookings are essential as tickets are strictly limited.

Panelists: Zaynab Farah, Hilary Zakria, Omar Sakr, and Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa

Followed by open mic - ‘love is a verb’ ft Zaynab Farah

How do you love? In the quiet? In the laughter? Whom do you love and how did you learn? Why? In this open mic, inspired by bell hooks’ writings that “love is a verb”, all forms of love and ways of loving are explored and celebrated. Sign up before the event commences to join this open mic and share your reflections on love (3 minute time limit). Our feature Zaynab Farah will conclude the night with musings and odes to all the big loves (and the small loves too). Proudly presented in collaboration with Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

Date: 2 December 2022. Panel 7 - 8pm. Open mic 8 - 9pm.
Cost: FREE - bookings essential.
