Creative Hybrids Lab (CHL), an international collective of artists who are also organ transplant recipients critically engaging with their lived experience of chronic illness and transplantation. CHL members include: Andrea Barrett (UK), Bianca Willoughby (AUS), Dominic Quagliozzi (USA), Dylan Mortimer (USA) and Tereza Crvenkovic (AUS).

Bianca is a disabled transgender Walbanja, Yuin woman working in video, sound, performance, photography and installation. Bianca’s ground-breaking experimental interdisciplinary practice involves collaboration with artists and practitioners from a variety of creative fields including dance, theatre, 3D and VR design, performance, drag, music, costumes and textiles. Her work is informed by queer/crip theory and trans/ queer activism. She also performes in queer spaces under her stage name as Bianca River Moon. Bianca’s work and practice has undergone many incarnations over time, making visible the hidden aspects of her identity and lived experience of neurodiversity, disability, chronic mental and physical illness, Aboriginality and cis-gender non-conformity. Bianca was the recipient of the inaugural 2017 CreateNSW Artist With Disability Fellowship for skills development and the 2019 360Vision VR grant and numerous Australia Council new work and development grants since 2008. She has performed and exhibited at Performance Space’s Liveworks 2018 Festival at Carriageworks, Science Gallery London’s exhibition Spare Parts and was an ambassador and exhibiting artist for The Big Anxiety Festival in 2019 and recently in the exhibition Whole Self curated by Jake Adam Treacy at The Incinerator Gallery Melbourne for Midsumma Festival in 2022. She was artist in residence at Critical Path PYT Choreography lab in 2022 and was a panelist and advisor in PYT’s World Pride events program in 2023. Bianca has worked extensively as an arts worker in video production for artists and institutions working with such luminaries as Karla Dickens, Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Amala Groome, Kate Scardifield, Helen Pynor, Tracy Moffat, Nicole Monks and many more. Bianca is a peer reviewer for the Australia Council and an advisor for Accessible ARTs NSW.

Tereza is an interdisciplinary artist who works across literary writing, storytelling, digital and photographic media, dance, performance and cross-cultural genres.

A 2-x kidney transplant recipient (1992 & 2017) and stroke survivor (2009), Tereza’s creative work explores the complexities and contradictions of her life with chronic renal failure from childhood onwards. Her objective is to shine a light on the personal, silent narratives of the patient/survivor otherwise concealed from public view. Bodily, sensory and psycho-emotional experience are central to her work.

Tereza’s creative process is informed by phenomenology, Somatic Experiencing, Gestalt therapy, the felt sense, yogic philosophy, embodiment theories, queer crip theory, and the Croatian/Bosnian Diasporic experience.

A second generation Australian of Croatian/Bosnian ancestry, Tereza was a dancer, vocalist and dance instructor with Koleda Croatian Folkloric Ensemble Sydney for over 40 years. Her experience includes 100s of community-based performances Australia-wide, 3 tours of Croatia and Bosnia Hercegovina, regular performances at the SOH, and 2 studio albums.

Tereza holds an MPhil in Performance Studies (USYD), an MA in Theatre Studies (UNSW), a BA Hons in English Literature (USYD) and Grad Dip in Creative Writing (USYD). She also attended Zagreb University on a 6-month scholarship to study carnival traditions. Tereza is a Certified Focusing Professional with the International Focusing Institute, NY, and a trained Yoga teacher. Her literary work has appeared in Hektoen International, Spineless Wonders and Kaleidoscope.
