Making Music Matter is a festival event that joyously celebrates women’s contribution to music. The event will occur alongside the public program event: Girls Talk Women’s Work.

This year, Melbourne based band Girl Zone will play a concert while Western Sydney all girl poetry collective The Freedom Writers will perform two poems; Lost Tongues and Too Much Woman. In addition, there will be workshops on how to create electronic music at home.

Girl Zone is a squad of five young girls from Fitzroy bursting with energy, confidence and fire. Best friends since they can remember, they rap and sing about their lives and future ambitions, covering everything from basketball to world domination. The poetry collective, The Freedom Writers feature Western Sydney based poets Hannadi Dabei, Elizabeth Kelly, Ruken Kayya and Srisha Sritharan. Two of the members are still in high school!
